We’ve assembled this unique five-coin set to showcase some of the wonderful silver coinage of Canada and have placed it in a solid wood display frame that you can either hang on the wall or display on counter or desk. First minted in 1935 to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of King George V. Canadian silver dollars were minted almost continually until 1967 excluding the years surrounding WWII. These are the last five silver dollars minted for use as currency by the Canadian government. In 1968 the composition of the dollar was changed from silver to nickel, signaling an end to the silver currency era for Canada. Standards, mintages for these Canadian silver dollars were very low and used as currency and melting. Therefore, only a fraction of these coins survive today in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Because Canada is an independent commonwealth of Great Britain, the obverse of all five coins features the portrait of the ruler, Queen Elizabeth II. The reverse of the 1963, 1965 and 1966 coin is the classic voyager reverse, featuring a fur trader and a native Indian paddling in a birch bark canoe. Voyeurs were the first Europeans to venture into the dangerous Canadian wilderness in the 1600s and 1700s, usually by canoe, trading European items for furs, and learning the trades and practices of the native people in the process. The reverse of the 1964 issue celebrates 100. Anniversary of the Charlottetown Conference in Quebec, which led to the formation of the Dominion of Canada. The reverse of the 1967 issue celebrates the 100. Anniversary of the Canadian Confederation and features a magnificent rendition of a classic Canadian goose in flight.
