2012 Canada 1 cent – 5 oz. FAREWELL TO THE PENNY. The year 2012 marks the end of production of Canadas 1-cent piece. To celebrate the pennys long history, the Royal Canadian Mint is offering a series of commemorative pennies rendered in exquisite finishes. This commemorative 1-cent piece is certified to be 99.99% fine silver with a diameter of 65 millimetres and a metal weight of 157.6 grams. The reverse features G. Kruger-Grays iconic 1937 design, which was used as the Canadian 1-cent piece reverse image from 1937 to 2012, with the sole exception of 1967. The image features two upright five-lobed maple leaves, the larger one on the right slightly overlapping the smaller leaf on the left. Both are attached by their stems to a small twig.
