Very Rare Canadian Coin Silver Spoon by West & Eastman of Montreal Ca. 1809-10
Offered is an extremely rare example of the work of Canadian silversmiths West & Eastman of Montreal, working 1809-10. There are three marks on this piece; the first is a W. &E maker’s mark for the partnership of West & Eastman, silversmiths and jewelers working opposite the theater in St. Nicholas Street, Montreal, from May 1809 to the dissolution of the partnership sometime in 1810. See page 40 of “The Old Silver of Quebec” by Traquair. This firm was only around a year, and apparently their silver is rare enough that not a single piece was found by Langford for his volumes on Canadian silver. The other two marks are a town mark of MONTREAL, and a right-facing lion that is quite well done. This piece measures about 4 15/16 inches in length and weighs about 12 grams. Condition is fairly good overall, with some surface wear and scratching, and very minor bumps to the bowl, but no major dents and no splits or repairs. A good example of these rare marks! All in all a scarce piece of antique Canadian silver! The item “Very Rare Canadian Coin Silver Spoon by West & Eastman of Montreal Ca. 1809-10″ is in sale since Sunday, September 15, 2019.
