Designed by artist Tony Bianco, the center coin design features a gold plated image of the Centre Block of Canada’s parliament buildings which were completed (for the Province of Canada) in 1866, and remained the home of Canada’s federal government until 1916 when all but the Library of Parliament was destroyed by fire. Surrounding the Centre Block of Parliament image, the 13 puzzle-shaped coins feature sepia-toned reproductions of historic photographs from Library and Archives Canada.
