This design, by Susanna Blunt, is unique to coins minted by the RCM and is not used on the coins from other various British colonies. On the reverse of this coins lies the focal point the traditional Maple Leaf design. This incredibly detailed design of the symbol, which also appears on the Canadian flag, is featured alongside the inscriptions: CANADA, 9999 FINE SILVER, and 1 oz. As already mentioned, this years issue of the Silver Maple Leaf features two enhanced security features. The radial lines on the reverse of this commemorative coin replaces the bullion finish that appeared on earlier coins. Now, these lines in the SMLs field are precisely machined to ensure reproducibility form die to die and coin to coin. The line width as well as its pitch gives this coin more character and when placed under light, creates a diffracting pattern. This pattern is specific to this coin and is nearly impossible to recreate, thus helping to prevent creation of counterfeits. Another new security feature on this years coin is the textured privy mark a tiny maple leaf that is engraved with laser technology. The privy mark features the issuing year in this case, the number is 15 on the center of leaf. This mark helps to ensure that this coin is nearly impossible to recreate.
